تتميّز الحوامض المغربية بسمعة جيدة، فالمغرب ينتج 1.3 مليون طن سنويا، توجه 53.000 طن منها نحو التصدير، ما يمثل حجما يقارب 3 ملايير درهم. ويساهم القطاع في إحداث 21 مليون يوم عمل في السنة، كما يضم حوالي 13.000 منتج للحوامض يستغلون مساحة إجمالية تقدر بحوالي 92.000 هكتار، وتظل 47% من الاستغلاليات الوطنية مجهزة بأنظمة للسقي. و تتوزع الجهات الرئيسية للإنتاج بين سوس ماسة (38%)، والغرب/ اللوكوس (20%)، وملوية (17%)، وتادلة (14%)، والحوز (6%)، وتشمل الأصناف الرئيسية للحوامض المغربية كلا من الكليمنتين (39%)، “ماروك لايت” (29%)، و”النافيل” (22%)، والبرتقال النصف موسمي (5%)، إلى جانب أنواع أخرى.
وحسب موقع وزارة الفلاحة والصيد البحري فإن عددا من الفاعلين الخواص ينتظمون في إطار مجموعات تمخض عنها إنشاء قطبين للتصدير هما : “Maroc Fruit Board” و”Fresh Fruit”، و تتحدد مهمتهما الأساسية في تأمين اللوجستيك البحري وتدبير التسويق.
